Reasons to Homeschool

People are always looking for reasons to homeschool or reasons not to homeschool. I want to share my reasons to homeschool from the perspective of a homeschooler now adult.

Now, I loved being homeschooled. The top reasons to homeschool were obvious to me:

  • Flexible schedule
  • Individualized curriculum
  • Lots of family time
  • Ability to explore interests
  • and the list could go on!

I enjoyed the flexible schedule. My family would go on vacations during the first few weeks of the traditional school year and everything would be dead! No lines at amusement parks was a huge perk as a kid.

Now, as a parent, I have lots more great reasons to homeschool. Firstly, I cannot imagine sending my little 4 year old away. I would be so anxious about whether he would be okay. Where we are in Canada, there are things that we do not agree with Biblically. He is not ready to defend his faith.

My oldest is hyperactive and a school setting would not be the ideal learning environment. Being at hone allows us to work together to figure out a plan and schedule that caters to his unique needs and strengths. Here are a few more reasons why my husband and I chose to homeschool:

  • More family time
  • Control over homeschool curriculum
  • Bible-based education
  • Flexible schedule
  • More opportunities to be creative
  • Socialize with all ages and groups of people (and not confined to a classroom or play yard)
  • Opportunities for hands-on, real life learning

Beginning to homeschool can be overwhelming! Admittingly, I had an advantage because I was homeschooled and had experience “homeschooling” other people’s children. Have no fear, there are tons of homeschooling resources out there! I will link a couple below.

If you are a planner and want to organize homeschooling on paper, perhaps look into purchasing a planner. There are loads of options out there, but you could even create your own.
