Homeschooling is not new to me. In fact, I grew up being homeschooled. Having never set foot in a public school classroom, I knew nothing else.
My mom homeschooled my brothers and I all the way through grade 12. After “graduating”, I went on to university to get my Bachelors of Arts in Sociology followed by my Masters of Education degree. This is where I feel like I began my homeschooling journey.
After graduating, I opened a small private school for students with learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. The school began with a few students and eventually grew to 15 or so. We wanted to keep it small to ensure that each child was receiving high quality education.
Running the school provided me with ample opportunities to use a variety of homeschool curriculums, practice homeschool organization, and create homeschool curriculum myself. I quickly familiarized myself with the popular homeschool curriculums. Each of my students had an individualized curriculum and individualized learning plan.
What did I use as my core curriculum? Easy Peasy All-In-One Homeschool. I love this curriculum. It is a completely free (vital for my first year of business), Bible-based curriculum that is complete! I still recommend this curriculum to families today.
Easy Peasy also has offline workbooks available to purchase on Amazon. One of my favourite parts of the Easy Peasy curriculum is their reading. The Learn To Read book was a staple for my students. It’s affordable, complete, and easy to follow. Easy Peasy starts with learning the letter sounds, progresses to phonetics, sounding out blends and words, and ends with memorizing sight words. Here is the link to the book:
They also offer printable versions of the worksheets needed for science and history.
